Location options: Melbourne or Regional Victoria
The Safe Step is proud to be partnering with VicGrid in seeking an accomplished Director, Safety to provide strategic and operational health and safety leadership across its Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) developments and broader portfolio of major energy infrastructure projects.
About VicGrid
VicGrid is a Victorian State Business Corporation responsible for planning Victoria’s transmission network and Renewable Energy Zones as the state transitions towards renewable energy. VicGrid is taking a coordinated approach to developing the transmission infrastructure Victoria needs to maintain a reliable and affordable electricity supply as ageing coal-fired generation retires.
The scale and complexity of VicGrid’s work is substantial. Its current portfolio of projects will play an important role in reshaping Victoria's energy network and represent some of the state's most significant current and future infrastructure investment.
About the Opportunity
As Director, Safety and a member of the VicGrid Leadership Team, you will lead VicGrid's health and safety function and develop a high-performing Safety team, supporting the safe development and delivery of its programs. You will play a critical role in embedding safety into project planning and delivery while driving a positive, proactive and industry-leading safety culture.
You will lead the implementation of VicGrid's safety strategy, project risk and assurance activities and contractor safety frameworks, while providing trusted advice to Program Directors and senior leaders across the organisation.
Working across a complex stakeholder environment, you will have the opportunity to shape safety standards, behaviours and practices across VicGrid's project portfolio and the broader industry.
About you
You will be a highly experienced safety leader with a strong track record working across major infrastructure/construction, energy, utilities or similarly complex project environments.
You will combine deep technical safety expertise with the leadership presence and influencing capability required to operate effectively with executives, senior project leaders, contractors, regulators and government stakeholders.
Experience working within an active client model, with the ability to effectively influence delivery partners, provide appropriate governance and assurance, and navigate the balance between oversight and contractor accountability, is highly regarded.
You will bring:
The 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan sets out a long-term, coordinated approach to the development of Victoria's energy infrastructure network. As VicGrid continues to lead planning, coordination and delivery across a significant portfolio of energy infrastructure initiatives, this role offers a unique opportunity to influence how major projects are safely developed and delivered across the state.
As Director, Safety, you will provide strategic leadership during a pivotal period for Victoria's energy transition, embedding a safety-first culture and establishing the frameworks, governance and capability that will support the successful delivery of VicGrid's objectives for years to come.
