Davidson Technology Consulting is seeking an experienced Data Migration Test Engineer to support the validation and reconciliation of complex migration extracts across DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server environments.

This is a hands-on role suited to a Test Engineer, SQL Test Analyst or Data Migration Tester who can interpret source-to-target mappings, develop database functions, generate independent test extracts and reconcile results against migration files.

  • 6 month contract
  • Hybrid - 2 days onsite in Brisbane or remote opp for interstate candidates

The Role

Working across one DB2 database and three Microsoft SQL Server databases, you will develop the SQL logic and testing processes required to independently validate migration outputs. You will create table functions within each source database, access these functions from a central Microsoft SQL Server testing environment using linked servers and OPENQUERY, and generate testing extracts based on defined mappings and business rules.


Migration extracts will be provided as pipe-delimited flat files. You will use PowerShell and the BCP utility to prepare, import and validate these files before completing detailed comparisons against independently generated test extracts.


Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret source-to-target mappings and migration business rules.
  • Develop table functions and stored procedures in DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Write DB2 SQL and T-SQL to create independent migration test extracts.
  • Use linked servers and OPENQUERY to access functions across remote databases.
  • Develop PowerShell scripts to prepare pipe-delimited migration files for testing.
  • Remove header and trailer records, add column headings and validate file structures.
  • Use the BCP utility to import migration extracts into Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Compare migration and testing extracts at record, field and aggregate levels.
  • Identify missing, additional, duplicated or mismatched records.
  • Investigate discrepancies and provide clear technical evidence for remediation.
  • Document testing outcomes and maintain traceability to mappings and business rules.
  • Support migration rehearsals, defect resolution and retesting activities.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Three to five years’ experience in technical testing, data migration testing, database development or a related role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including DB2 SQL and T-SQL.
  • Experience developing table functions and stored procedures.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server linked servers and OPENQUERY.
  • Experience interpreting source-to-target mappings and business transformation rules.
  • PowerShell scripting capability.
  • Experience using the BCP utility to import or export data.
  • Strong data reconciliation, investigation and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Experience processing flat files and pipe-delimited data.
  • A methodical approach and strong attention to detail.
  • Hold full work rights for Australia

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with Fiserv Signature or core banking platforms
  • Banking or financial services experience.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data migration, transformation or system replacement programs.
  • Familiarity with customer, account, transaction, deposit or lending data.
