Position Overview
The Eligibility Specialist is responsible for reviewing applications and determining eligibility for various public assistance programs. This position conducts interactive interviews, gathers and verifies information, explains program requirements, and assists applicants in obtaining available benefits. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service, interviewing, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to interpret policies and make accurate eligibility determinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review applications for public assistance programs and determine applicant eligibility.
- Conduct interviews and gather information to verify eligibility requirements.
- Review application forms for completeness and accuracy and follow up with applicants as needed.
- Verify information through documentation and other available resources.
- Explain program rules, policies, and requirements to applicants, employers, medical providers, and government agencies.
- Assist applicants in identifying programs and benefits for which they may qualify.
- Address customer concerns and determine appropriate resolutions.
- Maintain accurate case documentation and records.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding eligibility determinations.
- Travel as needed for meetings, training sessions, or conferences.
Required Qualifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Experience conducting interviews, gathering information, and researching documentation.
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in case management, public assistance programs, social services, claims processing, or eligibility determination.
- Experience working in a government or healthcare environment.
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
