Teamforce Labour are currently seeking an experienced Construction Plant Fitter / Plant Inspector to join the team on the prestigious Lower Thames Crossing project in East Tilbury, Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, hands-on Plant Fitter to work on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.
The role will primarily involve carrying out plant inspections, hired equipment pre-use checks and general plant maintenance, ensuring construction plant and equipment is safe, serviceable and fit for use.
This is a hands-on fitter position and not a supervisory or management role.
We are looking for an experienced, practical fitter with a strong understanding of construction plant who is confident identifying mechanical defects through thorough physical and operational inspection.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a traditional, hands-on Plant Fitter with excellent practical knowledge of construction machinery.
The successful candidate should be comfortable inspecting machinery using their mechanical knowledge and experience – identifying issues through visual inspection, operational checks, sound, vibration, smell, feel and overall machine condition.
This position does not require a supervisor, manager or senior mechanic. The focus is on finding an experienced and reliable fitter who can carry out high-quality plant inspections and maintenance on site.
Candidates must also be able to carry out inspections impartially and without any conflict of interest with plant hire suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out thorough inspections of construction plant and equipment.
- Completing pre-use and acceptance inspections on hired plant and equipment before it is put into service.
- Checking plant for mechanical defects, damage, leaks, excessive wear and other potential safety or maintenance issues.
- Inspecting a variety of construction and earthmoving plant and associated equipment.
- Carrying out preventative and routine maintenance.
- Undertaking corrective maintenance and minor repairs where required.
- Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and diesel engine faults.
- Inspecting pumps, compressors and associated mechanical equipment.
- Ensuring plant and machinery is safe, serviceable and suitable for its intended use.
- Accurately recording inspections, defects and maintenance activities using digital reporting systems.
- Escalating defects or equipment concerns where further repair or specialist attention is required.
- Working closely with site teams while maintaining an independent and impartial approach to the inspection of hired plant.
- Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with site health, safety and environmental requirements.
Essential Requirements, candidates should have:
- Proven experience as a Construction Plant Fitter, Plant Mechanic, Plant Inspector or similar hands-on mechanical role.
- Strong practical experience working with construction and earthmoving plant.
- Good working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pumps, compressors and associated mechanical equipment.
- Hands-on experience carrying out plant servicing, preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance.
- Strong fault-finding and defect identification skills.
- Experience conducting plant inspections and pre-use/serviceability checks.
- Ability to confidently determine whether plant and equipment is safe and fit for use.
- Previous experience using digital inspection or maintenance reporting systems such as GMAO/CMMS, Dalux, equipment inspection software or similar platforms.
- Ability to accurately complete and maintain digital inspection and maintenance records.
- Strong awareness of construction site health and safety requirements.
- An up-to-date CV demonstrating relevant plant fitting and maintenance experience.
