Job Overview:
This Buyer / Material Planner role is responsible for coordinating and leading the procurement of production-critical materials that keep the Ocala plant running. You will manage supplier follow-up, monitor MRP signals, track purchase orders, resolve delivery risks, and ensure materials are available when manufacturing needs them. This is not just placing orders. It is strategic material execution in a fast-moving manufacturing environment where your ability to build supplier relationships, analyze data, prioritize action, and expedite critical items directly impacts production flow and customer delivery. This Buyer / Material Planner role is responsible for coordinating and leading the procurement of production-critical materials that keep the Ocala plant running. It is strategic material execution in a fast-moving manufacturing environment where your ability to build supplier relationships, analyze data, prioritize action, and expedite critical items directly impacts production flow and customer delivery. Responsibilities:
- Reviews and processes automated MRP requisitions to secure high-volume production parts and maintain material availability.
- Partners with domestic and global suppliers to confirm specifications, capacity, pricing, delivery schedules, and stocking requirements.
- Selects production materials and components by validating engineering requirements, evaluating total cost, and determining the appropriate procurement method, including direct purchases, blanket agreements, and competitive bids.
- Prepares and manages high-value purchase orders, scheduling agreements, bid requests, and supplier proposals within SAP, established budgets, and delegated authority.
- Maintains accurate procurement records and SAP master data, including purchase costs, variances, delivery performance, quality, inventory health, lead times, safety stock, minimum order quantities, and reorder points.
- Partners with Quality, Engineering, and Inspection teams to investigate defective or unacceptable materials, determine root causes, and implement supplier corrective actions.
- Coordinates with production planners to schedule material flow, expedite critical shortages, and prevent production disruptions or downtime.
- Approves material invoices for payment and resolves complex pricing, quantity, and purchase-order discrepancies.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5+ years of progressive materials purchasing experience ideally in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- 3+ years of MRP/ERP experience navigating transactions, extracting reports, performing inquiries, creating purchase orders, and maintaining oversight of material movement and status.
- 2+ years of Excel experience to include data manipulation, comparing reports, crunching numbers, and ideally performing XLOOKUP to move/compare data between spreadsheets
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and build productive vendor relationships.
