Key Responsibilities
As the Lead Mechanic, you will:
- Plan, schedule, and carry out preventative maintenance and servicing of all farm machinery, plant, and equipment.
- Review BOLT inspections and defect reports, complete maintenance records, and ensure accurate data entry for scheduled maintenance and costs.
- Diagnose and complete breakdown repairs efficiently to minimise operational downtime.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices for servicing and repairs.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Manage water extraction reporting requirements, including Bore Extraction Limits (BEL) and bore draw-down monitoring.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of spare parts, lubricants, and workshop consumables through regular stocktakes and cost-effective purchasing.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and secure workshop, ensuring tools and equipment are accounted for and stored correctly.
- Maintain equipment operating manuals and assist with record keeping using SharePoint and the Fixed Asset Register.
- Provide recommendations on equipment condition and capital replacement planning.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors undertaking specialised repairs and ensure all Authority to Commence Work procedures are followed.
- Ensure machinery, tractors, implements, and associated equipment are operated and maintained within recommended guidelines.
- Assist with maintaining the SDS register and ensure hazardous materials and waste are handled in accordance with environmental and manufacturer requirements.
- Support Quality Assurance (QA), Environmental, and Work Health & Safety (WHS) systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote safe work practices and assist managers in ensuring compliance with WHS requirements across all farm operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce maintenance costs, minimise waste, and improve equipment utilisation.
- Support staff training and the safe operation of machinery across the farm.
- Foster positive communication, teamwork, and a culture aligned with company values.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Farm Manager.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining agricultural machinery, heavy equipment, or similar plant.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Experience with preventative maintenance systems and maintenance record keeping.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and cost management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with farm management and staff.
- Commitment to workplace safety, environmental compliance, and quality standards.
- Experience supervising contractors or leading maintenance activities is highly regarded.
