Position Overview

This is a hands-on Mechanical Project Technician role supporting the installation, modification, startup, and troubleshooting of production equipment within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with mechanical equipment installation, automation systems, machine builds, equipment commissioning, and manufacturing floor support.

The technician will spend the majority of their time working directly on equipment, assisting with new equipment installations, machine conversions, debugging, and turnover to operations.


Key Responsibilities

Equipment Installation & Commissioning

  • Install, modify, and support startup of new and existing production equipment.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical assembly, alignment, troubleshooting, and equipment adjustments.
  • Support equipment builds from construction/installation through final operational turnover.
  • Execute equipment setup, debug, testing, and performance verification.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate repairs or component replacements.

Project Support

  • Support project timelines, installation plans, and equipment deployment activities.
  • Assist with equipment moves, demolition, installation, and conversions.
  • Work with machine builders, integrators, engineering teams, and contractors.
  • Supervise and provide direction to maintenance personnel and outside trades during installation activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.

Mechanical Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues involving:
    • Mechanical drives
    • Pneumatic actuators
    • Mechanical assemblies
    • Process equipment
    • Production machinery
    • Alignment and positioning systems
  • Interpret engineering drawings, mechanical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Modify mechanical components to improve reliability, reduce costs, or resolve design issues.

Documentation & Engineering Support

  • Create and update installation documentation.
  • Redline drawings and update equipment documentation packages.
  • Review machine specifications, layouts, installation checklists, and parts lists.
  • Assist with procurement and expediting of materials needed for equipment installation.

Required Qualifications

Education

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Equivalent hands-on manufacturing/mechanical experience may be considered.


Required Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to use:

  • Experience supporting equipment startup and commissioning.

Environment / Logistics

Location: Wilmington, NC (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week

Travel may range from several days to several weeks during deployment phases.
