The Opportunity
Iberdrola Australia is establishing its Networks business as it delivers major electricity transmission projects that will underpin Australia's clean energy transition. With a growing pipeline of nationally significant infrastructure opportunities, including the VNI West transmission project, this is a unique opportunity to shape the legal strategy of a business entering its next phase of growth.
Reporting to Iberdrola Australia’s General Counsel, you will lead the Networks legal team while partnering closely with the Executive General Manager of Networks and the broader executive team. Acting as the senior legal adviser to the business, you will provide strategic, commercially focused advice across the full project lifecycle, from bidding and consortium formation through to development, financing, construction and operations.
As the Networks business continues to expand, you will play a key role in building legal capability, mentoring and developing legal professionals, and supporting the legal function as a trusted commercial partner to the business. Success will be measured not only by technical excellence, but by your ability to influence strategic decision making, build strong stakeholder relationships and provide practical legal solutions that enable project delivery.
Working across complex infrastructure and commercial matters, you will advise on procurement, PPP-style arrangements, construction and operations contracts, consortium agreements, financing documentation, regulatory approvals and risk management, while managing relationships with leading external law firms and supporting the delivery of nationally significant transmission projects.
About You
You are an accomplished legal professional with significant experience gained within major projects, infrastructure, utilities, construction or renewable energy environments. Whether your background has been developed in private practice, in-house or a combination of both, you bring exceptional commercial judgement, strong technical capability and a collaborative leadership style.
You have experience negotiating and advising on complex commercial and infrastructure agreements and are confident partnering with executive stakeholders to influence business outcomes. While leadership experience across transmission, utilities or PPP-style projects will be highly regarded, the client is also interested in candidates who demonstrate curiosity, adaptability and the ability to quickly apply their experience in a rapidly evolving sector.
