Senior Accountant

A diversified organization within the real estate sector is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take ownership of financial reporting, contribute to business planning, and work closely with operational teams across a varied portfolio.

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and financial reporting activities. You'll take ownership of the period-end close, support budgeting and forecasting, review property-related financial information, and help ensure that financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable accounting requirements.

What You'll Do

• Take ownership of month-, quarter-, and year-end accounting activities for a portfolio of business entities
• Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and working papers
• Complete journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and general ledger reviews as part of the close process
• Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, financing, intercompany, and other key accounts
• Investigate unusual balances and variances and work with relevant stakeholders to resolve issues
• Support corporate tax compliance and coordinate information required for external filings
• Analyze financial results against budgets and prior periods, providing clear explanations and insights to management
• Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
• Review property-related income and expenses and ensure financial information is accurately reflected in the accounting records
• Support the review and administration of tenant and contractual financial information
• Monitor cash requirements and work with internal stakeholders to support effective liquidity management
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting
• Provide coaching and day-to-day guidance to junior accounting staff
• Participate in special projects and other finance initiatives as required

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• CPA designation, or active progress toward a CPA designation, is preferred
• Progressive accounting experience, with a demonstrated track record of independently managing financial reporting and period-end close activities
• Strong experience preparing, reviewing, and interpreting financial statements and supporting schedules
• Confidence working with multiple entities, complex balance sheet accounts, and detailed reconciliations
• Experience supporting corporate tax compliance and financial reporting requirements
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting standards
• Experience in real estate, property, or another asset-intensive environment is an asset
• Advanced Excel capabilities and confidence working with large or complex financial datasets
• Experience with ERP, accounting, or financial management systems
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and identify practical solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
• A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement
