I've been asked by my client, a well-established mechanical contractor in Melbourne to source an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering and project delivery team.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong design engineer who enjoys working on complex building services projects and wants to be involved from concept and design development through to construction and project delivery.

You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and clients to deliver practical, buildable mechanical solutions across a diverse range of projects.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the mechanical design of commercial, industrial and/or large-scale building services projects
  • Developing detailed mechanical designs, layouts, calculations and documentation
  • Producing and reviewing drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Undertaking HVAC load calculations, equipment selection and system design
  • Reviewing consultant designs and identifying opportunities for optimisation
  • Working closely with project and construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
  • Providing technical support throughout construction and resolving design issues as they arise
  • Coordinating mechanical designs with architectural, electrical, structural and other disciplines
  • Participating in design reviews, client meetings and project coordination
  • Mentoring junior engineers and designers
  • Ensuring designs meet relevant Australian Standards, codes and project requirements

You’ll ideally have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in mechanical/building services design
  • Strong HVAC and mechanical services design experience
  • Experience working for a mechanical contractor, engineering consultancy or similar environment
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and relevant building codes
  • Proficiency with Revit 
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical services coordination
  • The ability to take ownership of designs and work autonomously
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to engineering
