Job Description: MEP Manager – Data Centre Construction
The MEP Manager on the MJM Data Centre Construction project is responsible for the
management, coordination, and delivery of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing
(MEP) systems across the project lifecycle. This role ensures that all MEP works are
designed, installed, tested, and commissioned to meet the required technical, safety,
quality, and operational standards of a mission-critical facility.
The MEP Manager will work closely with the Project Lead, design consultants,
contractors, vendors, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless integration and
performance of all building systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. MEP Coordination & Management
• Lead and manage all MEP aspects of the data centre project from design review
through to commissioning and handover.
• Coordinate MEP design interfaces between disciplines (electrical, mechanical,
BMS, controls, fire protection, etc.).
• Ensure alignment between MEP systems and overall project requirements,
programme, and phasing.
• Work closely with civil and structural teams to resolve interface challenges.
2. Design Review & Technical Oversight
• Review and validate MEP designs, specifications, and technical submittals.
• Ensure designs meet client requirements, operational needs, and industry
standards.
• Manage RFIs, technical queries, and design changes related to MEP systems.
• Provide technical leadership on critical systems such as power distribution,
UPS, generators, cooling systems, and controls.
3. Construction & Installation Management
• Oversee installation of all MEP systems to ensure compliance with approved
designs and standards.
• Monitor site progress, conduct inspections, and ensure works are delivered to
programme.
• Lead coordination meetings with MEP contractors and subcontractors.
• Ensure proper sequencing and integration of MEP works with other construction
activities.
4. Quality Assurance & Compliance
• Implement and monitor QA/QC processes for all MEP works.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project
specifications.
• Review method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and commissioning
procedures.
• Support audits and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
5. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
• Lead and coordinate MEP testing and commissioning activities, including
Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Ensure all systems meet performance, redundancy, and reliability requirements.
• Work closely with commissioning agents and operations teams.
• Manage handover documentation including O&M manuals, as-built drawings,
and asset registers.
6. Contractor & Stakeholder Management
• Act as the primary point of contact for MEP contractors, vendors, and
consultants.
• Monitor contractor performance and ensure delivery against scope, quality, and
schedule.
• Support commercial teams with evaluation of variations and change orders.
• Provide regular progress updates to project leadership and stakeholders.
7. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
• Ensure all MEP works are carried out in compliance with site safety procedures
and legislation.
• Promote a strong safety culture across all MEP activities.
• Participate in safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Essential
• Proven experience in managing MEP systems on large-scale construction
projects, ideally data centres or mission-critical environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical distribution, HVAC/cooling systems, fire
protection, and BMS/controls.
• Experience in managing installation, testing, and commissioning of complex
MEP systems.
• Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of local regulations, codes, and industry standards.
Desirable
• Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centre projects.
• Familiarity with redundancy standards (e.g., Tier III / Tier IV concepts).
• Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainable design practices.
