Job Overview:
The Engineering Manager and Site Leader for Frederica will lead and oversee the design and development of advanced hardware. From a technical standpoint, they will be responsible for developing the overall concept of a new product or for solving technical problems. This role will also lead cross-functional teams delivering innovative solutions, ensuring technical excellence, and meeting project objectives on time and within budget. To accomplish this, they must determine technical goals and produce detailed plans. Collaborate with other managers, including those in finance, production, and marketing, as well as with contractors and equipment and materials suppliers. They must know how to prepare budgets, hire staff, and supervise employees. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, project management, and leadership in the development of complex hardware systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end project execution by establishing clear plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, deliverables, and accountability for results.
- Provide visible leadership across complex engineering and equipment-development initiatives, ensuring teams remain aligned with business priorities.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team while building technical capability, collaboration, ownership, and professional growth.
- Set priorities, allocate resources, remove barriers, and make timely decisions to maintain project momentum and achieve commitments.
- Drive cross-functional coordination among R&D, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, finance, HR, and site leadership.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, customers, clients, suppliers, and external partners.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships through clear, proactive communication of project status, risks, decisions, trade-offs, and required actions.
- Align project scope, technical requirements, customer expectations, commercial considerations, and operational constraints throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify, escalate, and mitigate project risks that could affect schedule, cost, quality, safety, profitability, or client relationships.
- Lead regular project reviews and deliver concise progress reports, executive presentations, technical documentation, and recovery plans when needed.
- Advise BPS leadership and impacted departments on product or design changes that could affect cost, timing, profitability, and customer commitments.
- Ensure customer feedback and evolving requirements are evaluated, communicated, and appropriately incorporated into project plans and design decisions.
- Promote a high-performance, safety-focused culture that maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, internal policies, and financial controls.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Mechanical Engineering or similar Engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience in Pharma or Bio mechanical engineering or relevant engineering / hardware
- 3+ years of leading a team of 5+ direct reports
- 3+ years of experience working with international colleagues collaborating on technical issues and solutions to meet customer needs
Core Competencies:
- Demonstrated aptitude for time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks; set priorities and meet deadlines within established budget
- Understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts related to materials engineering
- Solutions-oriented thinking for difficult, technical situations
- Self-directed and proficient with time and project management
Preferences:
- Experience in medical or pharmaceutical hardware development & manufacturing
- Awareness in SolidWorks software and simulation tools
- Certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) or Six Sigma
- Experience in dealing directly with customers
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
- This position will be based at our site office in Frederica, Delaware, with approximately 20% domestic travel within the U.S, plus 1 to 2 trips travel to Switzerland.
