Data Modeler - Payroll

We are seeking a skilled Data Modeler to join a high-profile payroll remediation program, focused on delivering accurate, auditable, and scalable solutions for complex underpayment and back-pay calculations. This is a fully remote opportunity, ideal for someone with strong Australian payroll domain expertise and a passion for working with complex, time-based data.

You will play a critical role in designing and delivering data models that underpin payroll compliance outcomes, ensuring transparency, traceability, and regulatory confidence across historical payroll periods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain calculation-ready payroll data models to support large-scale remediation activities
  • Transform payroll, time & attendance, and HR data into a canonical remediation model for historical recalculations
  • Develop data assets to support:
    • Award & Enterprise Agreement pay rules
    • Penalties, overtime, and allowances
    • Apportionment of hours and pay across time boundaries
    • Averaging arrangements and “higher-of” comparisons
    • Multi-year remediation lookback calculations
  • Map and reconcile data across multiple payroll and timekeeping systems
  • Implement data lineage, controls, and auditability across all data layers
  • Perform data quality checks and support reconciliation of recalculated vs original payroll outcomes
  • Produce audit-ready documentation (data dictionaries, mappings, assumptions, model designs)
  • Collaborate with Payroll, IR, Legal, and remediation teams to validate outputs and resolve issues
Key Outcomes
  • Delivery of a fully documented, version-controlled canonical data model
  • End-to-end data lineage and audit trails (source → staging → model → calculation → reconciliation)
  • Data models that enable accurate application of award rules, averaging, and recalculation logic
  • Clear reconciliation of variances with sign-off from key stakeholders
  • Scalable solutions capable of processing large datasets across extended lookback periods
  • Strong stakeholder confidence through transparent documentation and governance
About You

You bring a strong blend of data modelling expertise and Australian payroll knowledge, with experience working in complex remediation or transformation programs.

Key Experience:
  • 3–5+ years in data modelling, data engineering, or analytics roles (with time-based data focus)
  • Proven experience in Australian payroll remediation or underpayment programs
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements
    • Penalties, overtime, allowances, and loadings
    • Averaging arrangements and minimum engagement rules
    • Superannuation (OTE vs non-OTE), PAYG, payroll tax, SGC
  • Strong ability to design logical and physical data models for payroll calculations
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience building calculation-ready datasets
  • Experience integrating and reconciling data across payroll and time & attendance systems
  • Strong understanding of effective-dated data, historical rate changes, and lookback calculations
  • Ability to produce clear, audit-ready documentation
Why Apply?
  • Work on a high-impact, large-scale payroll remediation program
  • Fully remote role with flexible working arrangements
  • Competitive salary package
  • Opportunity to work with cross-functional experts across Payroll, IR, Legal, and Data
