About Active Gloucestershire
Active Gloucestershire is an independent charity and one of 42 Active Partnerships across England, a national network working to reduce inequalities and create the conditions for more people to be active. Their focus is Gloucestershire: supporting people and communities across the county to live happier, healthier lives by reducing inactivity and making physical activity a natural part of everyday life.
They work with partners across sport, health and wellbeing, education, local government, and the voluntary and community sector to connect people, strengthen collaboration and support system change. As the backbone organisation for we can move — Gloucestershire’s social movement for physical activity — they help align priorities, share learning and tackle the barriers that stop people from being active.
About the role
Active Gloucestershire is seeking four new trustees, with the option to also appoint an associate/apprentice trustee. Trustees play a vital role in guiding the organisation, ensuring strong governance, and championing their mission to help everyone in Gloucestershire live healthy, active lives. You will bring your experiences, insights and values to help shape their direction and ensure they are delivering meaningful impact for the communities they serve.
What you'll do
- Help shape and oversee the strategic direction of Active Gloucestershire, championing one or more of their six priority areas and keeping the organisation focused on its mission
- Provide governance oversight — ensuring the organisation is financially sustainable, legally compliant and accountable to the communities they serve
- Support and constructively challenge the executive team, contributing your perspective to decisions that affect thousands of people across the county
- Act as an ambassador for Active Gloucestershire — building relationships, advocating for their values and helping them connect with communities they may not yet be reaching
What they're looking for

- Good communication and listening skills — you can contribute clearly, engage with different perspectives and work collaboratively as part of a team

- The capacity to commit around 6–10 hours per month to the role
- Ability to attend in-person Board meetings in Gloucestershire
They are also open to appointing an associate or apprentice trustee for someone who wants to develop governance experience but does not yet feel ready for a full trustee role.

This is a voluntary, unpaid role. Reasonable expenses — including travel, accommodation and meals — are reimbursed in full.
You will receive:
- A full, phased induction programme and a board buddy to support you from day one — no prior trustee experience needed
