Introduction

Our client, a global leader in the medical technology industry, is seeking an experienced and strategic professional to lead their Interventional Business Unit in Japan. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving the overall business strategy, execution, and organizational development in one of the company’s most important markets.


About the Role

As the Intervention BU Director, you will be tasked with leading the strategic and operational aspects of the Interventional business in Japan. This includes full P&L responsibility, go-to-market strategy, new product launches, and organizational leadership. You will collaborate closely with regional and global stakeholders to ensure alignment with corporate objectives, while driving sustainable growth through effective sales, marketing, and talent development strategies.


Responsibilities

Business Management

  • Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to drive revenue and market share growth.
  • Oversee the full P&L, including sales performance, contribution margin, and headcount planning.
  • Lead market analysis and respond proactively to industry trends and competitive dynamics.
  • Formulate annual budgets, sales forecasts, and operating plans aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Structure innovative and profitable customer partnerships.
  • Drive marketing initiatives to build brand preference and customer loyalty.
  • Direct sales and marketing functions to ensure cohesive execution across the business.
  • Maintain and leverage market segmentation to support business objectives.

Product & Market Development

  • Lead the planning and execution of new product launches in collaboration with global teams.
  • Partner with R&D and upstream marketing for localized product development input.
  • Build and nurture relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to gain market insights and identify growth opportunities.

Organizational Leadership

  • Design and implement organizational structures that meet current and future business needs.
  • Foster a culture grounded in trust, innovation, and employee engagement.
  • Hire, mentor, and retain high-performing talent across commercial functions.
  • Develop and manage talent pipelines and succession planning initiatives.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across all organizational levels.
  • Implement training and performance development programs to build team capabilities.

Compliance & Ethics

  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold corporate governance, legal, and ethical standards in all business practices.
  • Monitor compliance programs and lead related initiatives to promote integrity and accountability.


Requirements

  • Extensive leadership experience in the medical device industry, with a strong track record in interventional products.
  • Proven ability to manage full P&L responsibilities in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Strong understanding of the Japanese healthcare and medical device landscape.
  • Deep experience in sales and marketing strategy, product launches, and distributor/KOL management.
  • Demonstrated success in organizational leadership and talent development.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to drive execution and adapt to market dynamics.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, both locally and globally.
  • Fluency in Japanese and business-level English is required.
