Pipeline Engineer (Project Management Consultant – Level 4)
Remote, Standard Office Hours (EST)
12 Month Contract, up to $60.12/hour

Hydrogen Group is currently supporting a leading energy infrastructure client in the search for an experienced Pipeline Engineer to join their project team on a 12-month remote contract basis.

The Pipeline Engineer will provide engineering design, technical analysis, and field support for natural gas transmission pipelines and associated facilities, including measurement and pressure regulation stations. The successful candidate will support projects from development through construction, commissioning, and project closeout while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and support pipeline engineering and design activities in accordance with applicable regulations and industry standards including 49 CFR 192/195, ASME, and API standards.
  • Conduct class location studies, MAOP verification, wall thickness calculations, and High Consequence Area (HCA) evaluations.
  • Participate in HAZOP and risk review sessions for pipelines, stations, and associated facilities.
  • Support the design and review of measurement and regulation (M&R) facilities including regulators, meter runs, heaters, valves, instrumentation, and overpressure protection systems.
  • Review P&IDs, equipment layouts, control philosophies, and vendor documentation.
  • Support station tie-ins, commissioning, start-up, and in-service activities.
  • Assist with material selection for line pipe, fittings, coatings, and valves based on operating conditions and environmental considerations.
  • Support technical bid evaluations, vendor clarifications, and equipment award recommendations.
  • Manage geotechnical investigations and review HDD designs completed by third-party engineering firms.
  • Support vendor surveillance activities including inspection planning and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Develop and review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs).
  • Coordinate with suppliers and inspectors to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
  • Support development and review of welding procedures, welder qualifications, and repair strategies.
  • Review radiography and non-destructive examination (NDE) activities including RT, AUT, UT, and visual inspections.
  • Assist with hydrotest planning, execution, and troubleshooting.
  • Support cathodic protection system design, commissioning, and survey interpretation including DCVG/ACVG activities.
  • Review as-built drawings, alignment sheets, test records, material traceability documentation, and turnover packages.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of pipeline engineering, facilities engineering, or pipeline construction support experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of natural gas transmission pipelines and associated station facilities.
  • Experience with hydrotesting, welding, NDE methods, and cathodic protection fundamentals.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to manage third-party engineering support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing hydraulic modeling software for flow performance analysis.
  • Experience supporting M&R stations, cathodic protection systems, and commissioning activities.
  • Previous involvement in HAZOP or formal risk assessment reviews.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, alignment sheets, and pipeline data systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward EIT certification preferred.
