Role Overview
ANI is establishing a dedicated Data Governance Lead, to shape and embed a modern, fit-for-purpose data and information governance framework across the organisation and within ANI’s Nuclear Stewardship function focused on uplifting ANI’s capability to levels required to operate under a nuclear licensed premises. This role sits within the Information Management function and is responsible for building the standards, processes, and practices that ensure ANI’s data, documents, and records are trusted, well-managed, and compliant.
As the Data Governance Lead, you will play a critical part in strengthening how ANI captures, controls, and uses information by supporting confident decision-making, regulatory and defence sector obligations, and the long term preservation of information of national significance. You will work across structured data environments and document rich settings, partnering closely with business stakeholders to uplift capability, embed consistent practices, and provide oversight of data quality, metadata, and compliance.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new function, influence how data governance operates end-to-end, and contribute to ANI’s readiness for AI governance, metadata management, and future enterprise information initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of ANI’s data governance framework, including policies, standards, and stewardship models.
  • Define and maintain data ownership and accountability across the organisation.
  • Embed data governance into business processes by working closely with Information Management, business areas, ICT, and external partners.
  • Oversee data quality, integrity, security, and lifecycle management to meet legislative, archival, and government requirements.
  • Manage metadata, classification, and business terminology to ensure consistent, discoverable information assets.
  • Monitor governance compliance and risks, providing advice and reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Support Export Control obligations through effective data traceability and reporting.
  • Build organisational capability through tools, guidance, training, and awareness activities.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience
 
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain NV1 security clearance.
  • Proven experience in data or information governance, information/records management, or related fields—ideally in Defence, infrastructure, or government environments.
  • Strong capability in metadata, data cataloguing, data quality, and integrity management, including familiarity with compliance requirements such as Export Control and NAA standards.
  • Experience with Microsoft data and governance toolsets, particularly Microsoft Purview, Fabric, and Power BI.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills, with the ability to guide and support staff across the business.
  • Highly organised, detail-focused, proactive, and improvement oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or professional certifications (e.g., DAMA) are highly regarded.
