AWX Executive is partnering with a major government infrastructure delivery organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Communications Advisor for a high‑profile role supporting a significant South Coast infrastructure program.
This is a senior, externally focused position where you will lead strategic communications and community engagement activities across complex and highly visible projects, representing the organisation in public forums and strengthening relationships with communities and stakeholders. This is a 6 month short term contract located in Nerang, commencing June.
The Role As Senior Communications Advisor, you will deliver expert external engagement services across community engagement, public affairs, correspondence, media relations, issues management, and internal and external stakeholder relationship management.
You will lead a small Communications and Engagement team and provide high‑level strategic advice to senior leaders, project directors and regional executives. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of proactive community engagement, community relations and correspondence programs across the region.
- Deliver consistent, high‑quality, externally facing communication and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Manage, mentor and coach a small team to produce clear, concise and accurate communication materials.
- Work closely with project managers and communications officers to identify emerging issues and implement effective issues management strategies.
- Maintain current knowledge of the major works program and proactively identify communication risks and engagement trends.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with community members, industry, business groups and local, state and federal government stakeholders.
- Develop trusted partnerships with project teams to enhance coordination, cooperation and information sharing.
- Provide strategic advice to senior officers and management on risk management, external communication strategies and stakeholder relationship improvement.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in senior communications, engagement or public affairs roles within complex or regulated environments.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing and developing teams.
- Strong media, issues management and stakeholder engagement expertise.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including correspondence and briefing at executive level.
- Proven ability to build credibility and trust across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience supporting major programs or infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
