Job Description:
The Level One Machine Operator supports the operation of blown‑film extrusion lines used to produce plastic sheeting. This entry‑level role focuses on assisting senior operators, maintaining material flow, monitoring product quality, and ensuring safe, efficient production.
Key Responsibilities
Extrusion Line Support
- Assist with start‑up, operation, and shutdown of blown‑film extrusion equipment.
- Monitor bubble stability, film layflat width, and line speed under direction of senior operators.
- Load resin, additives, and colorants into hoppers and verify correct materials are used.
- Keep raw material feeders filled and ensure continuous production.
Quality Monitoring
- Perform basic quality checks such as film thickness, clarity, width, and surface condition.
- Identify visible defects (wrinkles, gels, holes, contamination) and notify the lead operator.
- Record production data and quality measurements as required.
Basic Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Assist with screen changes, die cleaning, and filter changes when trained.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Help maintain proper airflow, cooling rings, and winder operation.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures including PPE use, lockout/tagout (when trained), and safe handling of materials.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or quality concerns immediately.
- Maintain awareness of hot surfaces, moving equipment, and high‑pressure air systems.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with senior operators, supervisors, and quality personnel.
- Communicate production issues, material shortages, or equipment concerns clearly.
- Support training activities for new team members as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Manufacturing or machine‑operation experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to follow instructions and learn extrusion processes.
- Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools (tape measure, micrometer, calipers).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
Preferred
- Experience in blown‑film extrusion or plastics manufacturing.
- Forklift experience or certification.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced machine operation.
Work Environment
- Hot, noisy industrial setting with exposure to moving machinery and molten plastic.
- Standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
- May require rotating shifts, nights, weekends, or overtime depending on production needs.
