THE OPPORTUNITY

AgroFresh Solutions, Inc., an AgTech innovator, a global leader offering an innovative portfolio of products and services that enhance and extend the freshness, quality, and value of fresh produce worldwide, is seeking a Technical Sales Support (TSS) Manager based in Washington state.

The Technical Sales Support (TSS) Manager is an essential member of the AgroFresh customer-facing team, accountable for identifying and recommending innovative solutions to address their customer’s unique needs, and to promote, educate and steward the optimal use of AgroFresh products. This person is also the primary technical expert and partner for their sales team in their assigned region and ensures successful sales initiatives by ensuring that customers have a full understanding of product use, their proven advantages and benefits, and technical differentiation from competitors.

Here are some specific tasks that you might undertake:
  • ​​​​​​Provide direct technical support to sales and customers in the use of AgroFresh products including, but not limited to, product education, product application, and product demonstration trials.
  • Build relationships with key customers to drive the use of AgroFresh products.  Identify customer needs, market gaps and opportunities; recommend solutions that are in-line with the Company strategy.
  • Support the development of marketing and sales collateral, and represent AgroFresh at trade shows, grower meetings and conferences.
  • Provide on-ground intelligence and knowledge to regulatory and R&D teams necessary to develop and register new products as well as to Marketing and Sales teams on competitor products, technology trends and new opportunities.
  • Technical evaluation and study of competitive products to support Sales and Marketing teams.
  • Share local knowledge and information from assigned region throughout the North American, as well as Global organizations as relevant.

AgroFresh offers a number of innovative products including a post-harvest quality solution – SmartFresh is a technology developed by AgroFresh that helps extend the shelf life of produce by slowing down the ripening process. It works by releasing a small amount of ethylene gas, which is a natural plant hormone that triggers the ripening process in fruits and vegetables. By controlling the amount of ethylene gas that fruits and vegetables are exposed to, SmartFresh helps to slow down the ripening process and extend the shelf life of produce. This technology is used in a variety of crops, including apples, pears, kiwis, and avocados, and is applied at various stages of the supply chain, from the orchard to the storage facility to the grocery store. The company also provides data-driven insights and analytics that help growers and retailers optimize their supply chain operations and improve the quality and freshness of their produce.

Their customer base spans over 50 countries, servicing growers, packers, and retailers in the horticultural/agricultural space. Most of their customers specialize in the growing and/or distribution of apples and pears, with others specializing in citrus, blueberries, avocados, and cherries.  AgroFresh strives to be the industry leader in the specialty crop sector and provide solutions that deliver meaningful improvements to the safety and quality of our food.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The right person for the role must be knowledgeable in conducting demonstration trials with customers and has outstanding interpersonal and selling skills, commercial acumen, and strong technical skills.

YOUR EXPERTISE

Minimum education/qualification/experience
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent background in relevant fields (not essential)
  • Preferably 3+ years of industry experience working in a technical sales role in Agricultural Sciences, Agriculture or Food Production Industry, and related fields.
  • Good knowledge of fruit and vegetables, commercial and technical – tree fruit experience is highly preferred.
Leadership and behavioral
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced selling skills are required.
  • Pro-active attitude, strong personal leadership with initiative, and commitment to follow through and execute.
  • Demonstrated scientific yet practical approach to problem-solving abilities.

Functional and technical 
  • In-depth knowledge of crop production, post-harvest applications, and storage of specialty crops within the region, with a particular focus on pome and stone fruits, vegetables, and other specialty crops. Direct experience in these areas is highly desirable.
  • Ability to engage in local travel by car up to 75% of the time.
