About City of Stonnington
The City of Stonnington is a dynamic inner-city municipality experiencing significant development and community activity, requiring balanced approaches to compliance, regulation and community amenity.
Following a recent restructure within the City Business team, Council is bringing its compliance functions together under a unified leadership model focused on collaboration, accountability, customer service and operational efficiency.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high-profile compliance function and contribute to the ongoing development of a contemporary and community focused service.
About the Role
The Coordinator Compliance is responsible for leading Council’s compliance operations across local laws, construction compliance and associated regulatory functions.
Reporting to the Manager City Business, you will oversee teams responsible for compliance inspections, local law enforcement activities, community amenity matters and construction-related compliance across one of Melbourne’s busiest municipalities.
Council is seeking a leader who can support the evolution of the function toward a more proactive, intelligence-led and community-focused approach — building strong relationships with builders, developers and the community while improving consistency and accountability across the service.
You will lead initiatives focused on improving processes, strengthening service delivery standards and supporting team capability and performance.
The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to broader service improvement initiatives, future team structure planning and ongoing digital enhancement projects.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, community members and external industry representatives, you will provide expert advice on complex and sensitive compliance matters while ensuring balanced, practical and fair regulatory outcomes.
About You
You are an experienced compliance or regulatory leader with strong knowledge of local laws, construction compliance, enforcement, community safety and compliance operations within local government or a comparable regulatory environment.
You are comfortable leading diverse operational teams in complex community-facing environments and bring demonstrated experience driving process improvement, behavioural change and service enhancement.
You are a confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to navigate sensitive matters with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement.
Most importantly, you are a collaborative and resilient leader who leads from the front, values the experience of your team and can foster a culture of accountability, adaptability and continuous improvement.
