ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Hydrogen Group is actively sourcing experienced Cost Managers to support mission critical and large-scale data center construction programs across the US. These are contract roles working on the owner/operator or program management consultancy side, supporting clients with active, concurrent construction programs at scale.

This is a consultancy-facing role. Ideally looking for candidates with direct cost management experience in data center or mission critical construction – including pre-contract cost planning, budgeting, change management, and final account settlement. A background in a construction consultancy environment is also preferred.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

– Create estimates and cost plans for data center and mission critical program developments, supporting clients through all stages of the project lifecycle

– Actively participate in the tender and bid process – from initial documentation preparation through analysis, evaluation, and reporting

– Manage the full change management process – identifying, analyzing, approving, and implementing changes that affect project cost

– Oversee project spend through the creation of valuations and cost reports, and clearly communicate cost variations to project stakeholders

– Analyze tenders and bids to ensure client value for money, including review of GC and subcontractor submissions

– Assist in the preparation and agreement of final accounts, including handling of claims to ensure the client achieves best value from works undertaken

– Support the settlement of construction disputes and loss and expense claims with transparency and accuracy

– Maintain excellent cost documentation to support nimble project management and clear, timely decision-making

– Contribute to benchmarking, cost model development, and the maintenance of historical cost data across programs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Cost Management, or a related construction discipline – or commensurate hands-on experience

– 2+ years of experience in cost management on mission critical, data center, or large-scale infrastructure construction programs

– Demonstrated pre-contract cost management experience – budget control, cost planning, and preparing and initiating change forms for discussion with project stakeholders

– Strong command of the full cost management lifecycle: estimating, cost planning, change management, valuations, and final account settlement

– Knowledge of alternative construction materials and methods applicable to data center and critical infrastructure delivery

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills – ability to present complex cost data clearly to senior client stakeholders

– Strong Excel and data analysis skills for detailed cost modelling, reporting, and benchmarking

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– 3+ years of cost management experience on data center or mission critical programs

– Experience across multiple US markets simultaneously on concurrent, large-scale programs

– Familiarity with hyperscale data center delivery – multi-building, multi-phase campuses with accelerated timelines

– Experience working with Procore, CostX, or equivalent cost management platforms

– Life sciences or pharmaceutical construction cost management background

TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT — WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING IN

Program context

– Pre-contract and post-contract cost management on data center construction programs ranging from single-building builds to multi-phase hyperscale campuses

– Multi-vendor procurement environments including GC, MEP subcontractors, specialist equipment suppliers, and commissioning agents
