Job Description
  • A rapidly growing organization is seeking an EHS Manager to lead health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives.
  • This role serves as the subject matter expert on HSE matters and has the authority to stop work in cases of imminent danger to workers, the public, or the environment.
  • The EHS Manager ensures compliance with internal policies as well as client, local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and manage a comprehensive HSE training and compliance program to promote safe work practices, conditions, and worker behaviors across employees and subcontractors
  • Integrate internal HSE policies with client safety programs
  • Support and promote a strong safety culture and incident-free workplace philosophy
  • Coordinate HSE activities with customers and stakeholders
  • Plan, direct, and conduct periodic HSE assessments of job sites and offices
  • Deliver and manage annual HSE training programs (including drug-free workplace, confined space, trenching and excavation safety, first aid/CPR, competent person training, OSHA 10/30-hour training)
  • Ensure DOT compliance for drivers, vehicles, and equipment
  • Develop and deliver additional safety training as needed
  • Conduct new hire and ongoing HSE orientations
  • Monitor subcontractor and sub-tier subcontractor compliance with HSE requirements
  • Lead and support incident investigations; ensure consistent case management and root cause analysis
  • Train and advise personnel on HSE regulations, assessments, and operational processes
  • Promote employee engagement in safety programs and initiatives
  • Interpret and apply HSE regulations across projects and operations
  • Prepare and submit timely HSE reports and ensure leadership review
  • Track and report on HSE performance metrics and incident trends
  • Communicate hazards, near misses, and safety concerns to employees
  • Facilitate Safety Committee meetings, including documentation and action tracking
  • Recommend disciplinary actions for safety violations when necessary
  • Maintain employee training records and OSHA-required documentation
  • Travel domestically as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
General:
  • 5–10 years of experience in an HSE management role
  • 2–3 years of experience as an HSE trainer in industrial construction environments
  • At least 3 years of experience in underground utility construction
  • Strong knowledge of federal safety standards (OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, EPA, DOT)
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across internal and external teams
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including spreadsheets, word processing, and database tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to take independent corrective action
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments, including navigating stairs, ladders, heights, confined spaces, and uneven terrain
  • Flexibility to work overtime or weekends with short notice as needed
  • Experience in construction, plant, or manufacturing environments
  • Additional experience in trenching/excavation, shoring, confined space, traffic control, and DOT compliance
Preferred Qualifications
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification
  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field
  • OSHA 500 certification
